B1: Progression
My Inspirations
My inspirations are seeing media companies build from scratch and become huge in the media industry. For example the likes of Instagram, Facebook and YouTube. The creators of these apps had started it from scratch to where it is today. The likes of mark Zuckerberg stand out and his journey to fame. He was told by the university that the websites he created were too inappropriate and he now owns two of the biggest social networks in the world. Mostly his perseverance and determination to succeed inspires me the most after being put down by the industry so many times.
Potential options for the future
Another University course what I have looked at is the Media Production course. This course is taught by experienced experts within the industry using fantastic facilities. You will develop pitch ideas and undertake placements in order for you to be experienced within the industry. The current students have taken advantage of the of the relationships with the likes of BBC, Capital FM and Tyne Tees Television. The entry requirements for this course is 112-120 UCAS points. The annual fee for this course is £9,250 if you are from the UK and Europe and £13,000 if you are an international student. The lessons take place at the David Puttnam Media Centre.
Another option for my future is a job I have looked at called a media planner. This job is where you identify which media platform is best for advertising your clients brand. The work will take place within advertising industries so they will work with the press, television, radio and new media. The responsibilities for this are working with an account team to understand the clients advertising strategy. I will also need to research different projects at the same time and often with different clients. I have been researching the salary and the typical starting salaries range from £15000, £22000. As a media planner for several years the salaries are in the range from £25000 to £40000. At senior level you are expected to earn £50000. In a very senior position you are expected to earn £80000+. The job is expected to be 40 hours a week. It also requires overtime for things like business pitches.
I have looked on a website called total jobs which shows lots of media jobs that are available which relates to the work I am currently doing. There are many jobs within my area which require skills that I am capable of. Therefore the companies and some of the job roles are realistic and relevant. One that caught my eye was the digital marketing apprenticeship. This is because the course is mainly based around what I feel like I am most confident in out of all the aspects of this subject. It is easy to get to and I have the qualifications needed for this vacancy. The work within the job requires effective blog writing, social media advertising and working with clients.
Overall
The research I have conducted has made me want to go down the apprenticeship route. This is because it entails training as well as work so I am still developing my skills as well as treating it like an actual job. I have applied for this role as I have the qualifications required. I have also applied for the media course at university as a back up option in case I don't get the apprenticeship. The company I have applied for is called Baltic apprenticeships. They train in Digital Marketing in my area and have many different locations in the North East such as Durham, Sunderland Newcastle and Gateshead. The work includes supporting market campaigns, promoting website traffic and engagement, taking part in market research, creative writing and link building. The apprenticeship role will provide the skills, qualifications and experience for you to become a successful digital marketer. You are expected to work 39 hours a week. The schedule requires work by Monday - Thursday 8:30 - 5 pm, the Friday 8:30- 4 pm.
Digital Profile
Digital profile can be composed of personal or professional information shared on public websites posted personally or by others. One of the most effective ways is by posting the profile on social media.
Existing Digital Profiles
This is an example of a digital profile. Everything on the page is strictly professional and suitable for work. He has added in the summary of what he likes about his job and his life goals what relate to his job. The photo that he has used was clearly his work photo and he explains the details of his job. He has also added his background information such as places of education and work experience. This shows that he is hard working and intelligent. His achievements during the time at the company are stated. This could be useful to new employees as they know what to expect from their co-workers. He as also added the profile of a co-worker who has a different role. This is because whoever is looking at his profile they can see who he is working with and maybe view their profile to compare them.
This is another example of digital profile. This profile was made and belongs to Steve the CEO. He has added is background information which is all positive statements about his work journey. He mentions points such as his work commitments and his love for technology. His behaviour section mentions his strong points and what he wants for his company. The section headlined motivators highlights his achievements throughout his time as the CEO of the company. The needs section is what he expects from his future clients that are viewing his profile. The challenge section shows what he has had to overcome during his time as the CEO of the company. Overall this is a perfect example of a digital profile. He has highlighted each aspect of his work career and other points such as what he looks for in future employers. The photo that is on show is clearly a work photo to make the profile work appropriate.
